Thanks for posting the results of this study. More people are becoming aware of the fact that fructose (high fructose corn syrup) is in nearly EVERY processed food, including most low fat or "diet" choices. We all need to get back to whole foods from local markets and away from packages that we pop in to the microwave!

I've bookmarked your blog to come back and get tips from. I would love it if you would pop over to the Be Naturally Well community and add your link so my readers can find you more easily. There are lots of health bloggers out there and people are looking. Here's the link

Many Blessings,
Shelley

(I am especially interested in the acid/alkaline articles. I would be happy to post them on my blog with you as a 'guest blogger' if you would like!)

Great blog entry! What might also be important to note was that ALL groups gained fat from eating glucose or fructose - kind of a would you rather be drowning or bleeding? Of course, you would rather be neither! But we shouldnt for a second think that just because one is less damaging than the other that it makes it okay to put in our body.

Great point about the fruit vs pure fructose aspect of the study. Our bodies have been eating fructose for years, but usually it comes in the form of an actual piece of fruit. The fructose in this fruit can only be extracted naturally with a large amount of crunching and digestion and fiber and takes much longer for the fructose to actually get to us. So when we take in a fruit juice, the amount of fructose we get is the equivalent of many many pieces of fruit packed into one container (remember when you were a kid and you made some juice - remember how many oranges it took to make just one glass? Remember all the pulp and bits of orange that were left over? That is what your body would normally have to process through). So as you can see, there is a dramatic difference to the body when we take in a real piece of fruit vs a glass of juice. My advice? Take the real fruit! You will also experience reduced hunger and none of the insulin shock that happens with straight juice (insulin shock is when the body releases insulin to counteract the rush of sugar that just hit the body - it has been linked to increased fat stores in studies like the one shown here).
