The Case for Untreated Milk

November 12th, 2007

Here’s the report I promised on untreated milk:
It is already illegal to sell unpasteurised milk through shops, catering establishments, hotels, hospitals and schools in England and Wales. In 1989, for political and financial reasons, the government went for a total ban to fall in line with Scotland. The attempt failed, owing mainly to consumer pressure. However, on November 4th of this year (1997) the government announced its renewed intention to ban unpasteurised milk on the grounds that it presents a health hazard. There is no evidence for this. As this article explains, unpasteurised milk has special qualities that are destroyed by pasteurisation. The fight to save ‘Green Top’ is symbolic. It is a whole, living food whose demise would signal a new level of impoverishment for all of us who treasure real food with real flavour. It would also sound the death knell for the five hundred or so small farmers who still produce Real Milk. The last of their number has already been killed off by corporate interests in the USA and Canada. Do not let it happen here.

The supposed aim of pasteurisation of milk is to prevent risks to public health. Yet this ignores the many benefits of untreated milk and the damaging effects of heat treatment; these are outlined below. Read the rest of this entry »

Raw Milk: United Kingdom?

October 27th, 2007

It seems like the raw milk craze in California (USA) is starting to have a ripple effect….towards the United Kingdom!

People are finally starting to wake up! Woohooo! (For those who don’t understand this made-up term, its an expression denoting happiness and excitement - sorry, but sometimes you really do have to explain yourself :) )

I really am pleased, I’ve been ranting about the benefits of raw milk and problems with processed milk for so long…that I’m actually getting tired :(

Okay, I’ll be quiet!

Stories have always lingered about how farms have been shut down due to supplying raw milk and people having nearly died as a result of raw milk consumption, though the validity of such stories is somewhat mysterious (to put it mildly), they could be fabricated or real, though this is not what is relevant right now.

The media are finally reporting giving back milk the amazing reputation it had and thereby educating the masses- that’s what is important!

So where can you purchase this “raw milk”?

Milk: response(s)?

September 9th, 2007

Well well well, look what an avid reader sent me today (click on the image below):

If the the milk used in the study was raw, from pasture-fed cows and not homogenised or pasteurised, then the claims are justifiable.

If this is the case, then the milk described in the article is one of the best and most nutritious drinks available!

I have e-mailed the author (a journalist from the Daily Telegraph, London) and awaiting a response.

Will keep you posted!

Milk: Good or Bad?

September 2nd, 2007

milk carton

What is milk? You’d expect this to be a rhetorical question, however to give this article any justice I thought it would be important to give a brief definition (though nearly every human being has tasted milk at least once in their lifetime, I think.)

Milk is an opaque liquid that is produced by cows. If you need a further scientific or linguistic breakdown, then pick up a science book.

We have been told since childhood that milk is very good for us and that it helps build strong bones etc. Though these statements were true at one point in time, they do not hold much truth at present (exception: raw organic milk from grass fed cows – see further below).

Ok, so what has happened to our milk you ask?

Well here goes…
